Look what I found!

Filed under: Rambling — pete @ 7:06 am

I found this on at Play.com this morning. Who buys things like this? I mean if we’re trying to stop our kids from getting fat then maybe we should stop making games about every single aspect of life.

shipsim1

I know I’d much prefer my kids (if i had them) to go out and drive a real ship than just sit in at home simulating their dream on PC. At least they get a bit of fresh sea air in their lungs and if they crash they know it hurts and not to mess about with the rudder again.

Shame on play.com for stocking such a product!

As a side note: is it really necessary to label it ‘2008′ because I’ve never seen any other iterations and I’m not sure its that easy to get confused.

The Mask

Filed under: Rambling — pete @ 4:44 pm

A rather attractive mask (pictured below) seems to have made its mark on a small group of young people in the Surrey area. The mask, which is of a newsagent that lives up north, has caused somewhat of a stir.

Reportings are of youths planning sexual encounters wearing the masks over the internet, these rumours are back up by parents concerned about their children’s welfare:

“To begin with he just used to wear it in his room a bit, but lately he’s been wearing it everywhere… I caught him this Wednesday dancing and asking girls to dance at a bar in Guildford..”

More on this story as it breaks.

Jumper of the Week

Filed under: Jumper of the week — pete @ 10:55 am

This is my jumper of the week.

I recieved this jumper at Christmas from a friend of mine. Apparently it was bought for his father many years ago and he was throwing it out, presumabley because he thought it was a bit too trendy to wear in his 50s.

Constructed from the finest Acrylic/Cotton/Polyester/Nylon mix this isn’t just a stylish jumper, this is an M&S stylish jumper.

Why are antiques so great?

Filed under: Ranting — pete @ 7:54 am

David
Let’s face it, TV isn’t what it used to be.

Gone are the days of exciting dramas with gripping storyline’s and world class acting; these day’s we’re subjected to the same generic crime detective shows, reality tv and antique programmes!

And while at least the detective shows TRY to be a bit more exciting and programmes such as big brother at least show up the most desperate people in the country, what do David Dickenson and his merry band of experts bring to television.

Living in the affluent south of England I live near a fair few antique ‘dealers’ as they like to be called (it’s as ghetto as you get here). But from what I’ve seen all they sell is old stuff that only a few years ago you’d be paying someone to take away rather than the oter way around. You see I find it hard to see when something stops being old and not very good and becomes ‘retro’ and antique. Is there a rule? Is it a specific amount of time? Well I suspect it’s all down to the marketing.

Item: Shabby looking bottomless chair

Actual value: £4

Antique dealers price: £80-£100

“With its scratched detailing and rustic design this 19th Century oak comode reeks of history. Created by Ye Olde Ikea Trading Co. of Sweden in 1890 this comode would compliment any of our other wonderful rustic items available here today. Such as the classic legless table, a big hit with our chinese collectors.”
